Digest of Mining Claim Laws, 5th Edition
A much-used compendium of federal and state mining laws (and federal regulations) which govern the location and maintenance of mining claims on federal lands in the 14 western states, including Alaska. In 1993, Congress altered the procedure for holding unpatented mining claims, in turn causing state legislatures to revise state laws to accommodate changes in the federal law. As a direct result of the 1993 change, more than 50% of all existing unpatented mining claims in the U.S. were terminated. This edition updates changes, and explains how the mining claim system works. The Digest is a convenient assemblage of the actual federal and state laws, as well as the complex federal regulations, which every mining claim owner and mine operator must know to maintain rights to unpatented mining claims. A chapter written by the author, Robert G. Pruitt, Jr., explains the practices and theory behind locating and maintaining unpatented mining claims, and also explains how a mining claim can be patented.
