Scholarships and Grants for Law Schools

Grants Program

In 1976, the Foundation initiated its Grants Program. Grants are awarded to persons or organizations for meritorious projects in mineral resources law and related fields, such as the preparation of: teaching materials; specialized faculty or student research; law school seminars, lectures, short courses, and symposia; and publication of substantive articles.

Since 1976, 182 grants totaling more than $430,000 have been authorized. For a list of recent recipients, please see the Grant Awards Announcement. For more information, download our Grants Program flyer (PDF).

Scholarships Program

In 1980, the Foundation established the Joe Rudd Scholarship Fund and Scholarship Program in memory of Joe Rudd, a prominent Alaska natural resources attorney. In 1993, this program was expanded with the establishment of the Rocky Mountain Mineral Law Foundation Scholarships.

Scholarship selections are based on the interest of candidates in natural resources law and their potential to make significant contributions to the field.

Two hundred and sixty-three (263) Joe Rudd and RMMLF scholarships have been awarded to date, totaling almost $1.2 million.  20 scholarships were awarded for the Joe Rudd and RMMLF 2010-2011round.  For a list of recent recipients, please see the Scholarship Awards Announcement.  For more information, download our Scholarship Program flyer and Application Form.

Scholarships are awarded only to students enrolled in the Foundation's Constituent Law Schools.
